“It is right that our voice is heard at Westminster and as MP for Na h-Eileanan an Iar, I continue to speak up about the issue that are most important to my constituents.”

The SNP Leader in Westminster, Angus Robertson MP, said: “Angus MacNeil is exceptional at speaking on behalf of the people of the Western Isles.

“He speaks with a strong voice in Westminster on key issues, including fair fuel prices, much needed rural phone and broadband connectivity and on the future of the coastguards and post-offices in the islands.”

SNP MP Angus MacNeil makes the highest number of contributions in the House of Commons’ chamber of all Scottish MPs, according to new figures.

The House of Commons Library reckons Angus MacNeil ranks first amongst the 59 Scottish MPs in number of contributions made in debates in the Chamber since May 2010.

His 1,263 contributions is well ahead of the 40 Scottish Labour MPs, including Scottish Labour Leader Jim Murphy, who just made 166 contributions in five years.

The SNP said they made an average of 646 contributions each in the House of Commons - more than twice the Scottish Labour MPs contributions (311 each on average) and those of Scottish Liberal Democrats MPs (293 each).

Angus MacNeil said: “It is now a matter of public record that SNP MPs speak up for their constituents in the House of Commons, far more than our Labour, Liberal and Tory counterparts do.
