Pair of Twin Otters on show                    2/4/14

The broken plane stranded on a beach on Barra created a rare opportunity to see pair of Twin Otters together.

A crowd came to the beach airport to view the twin Twin Otters - the broken aircraft and a covering plane - side-by-side.

Shazza Cox who runs Barra Airport Cafe said: “It was a very unusual sight and caused quite a stir.”

“It was a pretty high tide with the water up to 4.9 metres on Monday.

“The sea came up to the plane’s wheels.”

The broken plane was pulled up to the perimeter of the shore to minimise damage from the rising salt water.

Ms Cox said: “People were coming for a look and a lot came to see the twin Twin Otters together.”

The aircraft suffered a fault on Monday afternoon and had to wait for spare parts.

Loganair used its only other Twin Otter to maintain the air service.

The stranded plane was pulled to the edge of the beach to prevent damage from the rising tide.
