Cal Mac ferry, MV Loch Portain, diverted off course to aid a paddleboarder who was reported to be in trouble in the Sound of Harris.
The ship's crew launched a dingy into the water and drew up alongside the man who said he did not need rescuing and was happy to continue his voyage to Leverburgh.
Leverburgh lifeboat was also called out to the incident on Sunday morning.
