Police enquiries are continuing after a number of posters which the force described as “offensive” were displayed around Stornoway.

The mock-up notices pretended to advertise a public meeting to mark Humza Yousaf’s appointment as Island’s Minister. Mr Yousaf is the first Muslim to hold a ministerial role in the Scottish Government.

A controversial Muslim speaker would give a speech at the event, claimed to have been organised by the SNP.

Images of previous Eurovision winners, Agnetha Faltskag from Abba and of Conchita Wurst were also on the fake flyers.

Poorly designed and amateurish with text in capital letters, the posters were placed in several locations in the town the weekend before last -  at the bus station, Perceval Square, Tesco’s plus a couple in the council buildings - without the premises owners’ permission.

Police asked anyone with information about the incident to contact them on 101.

If they wish to remain anonymous, callers can phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555111
