A man injured after being hit by a car obstructed a nurse treating him in hospital.

Paul Simmonds, of 11 Mosspark, Steinish, Lewis, pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared at Stornoway Sheriff Court on Monday.

The 41-year-old told the court he "couldn't remember" the events but accepted he assaulted, obstructed or hindered the female nurse practitioner, and shouted and swore at her, as she attempted to treat him at the accident and emergency department of the Stornoway hospital on Sunday.

Lawyer Ken Macdonald said Simmonds - who displayed cuts and bruises as he sat in the dock - informed him he had been hit by a car.

Prior to the offence, Simmonds had been given what he thought was a soft drink but was really cola "infused with whisky, " said the solicitor.

Simmonds wished to apologise to his victim as the behaviour was out of character, the court was told.

Procurator fiscal Karen Smith opposed bail saying Simmonds had appeared in the same court twice since being released from jail just weeks ago.

Sheriff James Scott called for background reports and remanded Simmonds in custody.
