A man who assaulted, stalked and menaced his former partner has been jailed for two years.

David Strachan - who refused to accept their relationship was over - also uploaded intimate photos of her onto the internet

Strachan pleaded guilty at Stornoway Sheriff Court to repeatedly causing the woman fear and alarm on various occasions in different places in the central belt and in the Western Isles last year.

The court heard the 26-year, described as a prisoner at Inverness, repeatedly phoned her and sent her menacing, abusive and threatening texts. He also sent her a video of himself committing self-harm.

Strachan injured her by repeatedly hitting her with a metal pole or similar instrument. He pushed her on the head, and slapped and punched her head.

In addition, he locked her inside, refusing to let her leave and made threats to her at an address on the mainland.

Many times, Strachan would contact her family trying to find out where she was.
