Norwegian Ambassador, Wegger Christian Strømmen has paid a visit to the Western Isles.

He met with MSP Alasdair Allan to discuss common interests between the islands and Norway.

Mr Strømmen and David Windmill, Honorary Consul General for Norway, also met Duncan MacInnes, of the Western Isles Fishermen's Association, for a briefing on the fishing industry and developments in Western Isles.

The ambassador also visited Comhairle nan Eilean Siar where tourism potential and population retention were on the agenda.

With a major Norwegian company having a strong interest in developing an offshore energy scheme off the west coast of Lewis, Mr Strømmen was delighted to learn the developer from his home nation has committed - if their project goes ahead - to a range of innovative and transformational investments across the island supply chain and local community.

Comhairle leader, Roddie Mackay, said: "There is a clear affinity between the maritime communities of Norway and the Outer Hebrides.  Both rely on fishing and tourism and both face transformational opportunities through the energy transition.

“Ambassador Strømmen, his government and his energy sector will be powerful partners for the Outer Hebrides as, together, we embrace the green revolution in the North Atlantic."

The ambassador also toured different parts of the island chain during his visit.
