Northern Constabulary's new Chief Constable George Graham handed out his first series of Long Service and Good Conduct medals since taking the helm back in April.
One of the officers who received the prestigious award was Western Isles Area Commander, Chief Inspector Gordon MacLeod.
Chief Inspector MacLeod, 41, has over 21 years of service including stints in Inverness, Portree, Kyle, Lochcarron, Broadford, Tarbert, Stornoway, Aviemore, Nairn, and Headquarters. Both he and his Gillian wife have family ties in the islands and Gordon has served at all ranks in Lewis and Harris at various times. He has been the top cop in the islands for the last two years.
Detective Constable Murdo Smith also received his Long Service and Good Conduct medal from the Chief Constable. Murdo is 46 and his career of 22 years has seen him serve in Aviemore, a lengthy tenure in Lochinver as one of the two village officers (at that time) and Stornoway, where he is currently a Detective Constable in the Crime Management Unit. Murdo hails from Ness.
The next award went to Sergeant Donald Smith. Donnie is 41 and has over 21 years police service. He has been stationed at Nairn, Glencoe, Portree, Mallaig, and now Stornoway, where he has been since approximately 2006. Another native islander, he is originally from Scalpay.
Stornoway Sergeant Roderick MacKay also received his medal from the Chief Constable. Roddy is 45 and has served fro over 23 years. The early part of his service was in Dingwall, Ullapool, Lochcarron/Kishorn, Fort William, Strontian, Mallaig. For the last few years he has worked in Lewis, firstly as the village officer in Balallan and latterly as the Community Safety Sergeant for the Western Isles.
