Sir,

Mr Donald Mackenzie (Biblical confusion – 3/1/15) appears determined to find contradictions in the Bible where none exist. His motives for doing so are known only to himself and the Lord.

No-one who reads the Bible carefully and humbly could make such a statement as: “So a person can believe on Jesus all they want but if God hasn’t already decided (‘…which hath sent me draw him:..’) then it is no use what the person believes.” Scripture teaches quite clearly that trusting in Christ, while it is man’s duty, is not within his power as a sinner but is “the gift of God” (Ephesians 2:8).

No confusion

8 January 2015

If God was to take what “people do (or did)” into account when it comes to salvation then no-one would be saved for “all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). We all deserve to be punished in hell for our sins and salvation is entirely of God’s mercy and grace and nothing of our works (Titus 3:4-7).

Finally the commandments which Jesus exhorted His disciples to keep are plainly the ten commandments of the moral law, which He often referred people to (e.g. Matthew 19:16-19; 22:35-40).
