An island man sneaked into an island nightclub and stole four large bottles of spirits worth £280, Stornoway Sheriff Court heard today.

Daniel Stewart of 16 Nicoll Crescent, Stornoway, admitted stealing out of Era nightclub on 8 February.

Sheriff Mungo Bovey fined him £200 to be paid at £50 per month.

The 25-year-old was also ordered him to pay £280 compensation for the thieved alcohol.

Procurator fiscal David Teale told the court that Stewart somehow got back into the bar premises after closing time.

Staff have no idea how he managed to enter but CCTV footage showed him taking four big bottles.

Mr Teale said each was worth £70. Three were never recovered and the remaining one was partially empty and could not be used for pub sales.
