Hebrides News

Sirs,

The recent report by Audit Scotland clearly states at the beginning that our NHS has improved substantially over the past ten years. People are living longer, waiting times have significantly improved, there are more health professionals and Scotland is losing the label of the sick man of Europe.

This has all been achieved by our NHS staff, support groups and the highest government investment ever.

Why has Peter Urpeth repeatedly stated the opposite? He offers very little to support his statement. He has obviously searched the audit report or some politically biased analysis to find criticisms. What is his personal agenda ?

It was not long ago that he was urging the election of a Labour Government at Holyrood. The Labour Party manifesto promised significantly less money than what is being committed just now. Labour wanted to raise £600 million from two million income tax payers at £300 each, plunging hard working families into poverty, yet didn't promise any of this extra money for the NHS.

Prior to this Labour campaigned for austerity cuts just like the Tories. They fully supported austerity by voting with the Tories to push more people into poverty and making the provision of public services like the NHS and those by the council more difficult to fund. Despite the difficult challenges, the SNP Government has somehow managed to find additional funding for investment in the NHS.

The party which Mr Urpeth supports has achieved its objective of reducing public funding, so what is it Mr Urpeth wants? Again what is his personal agenda?
