One newly married couple are all set to go on honeymoon now Friday's ferry strike has been suspended.

Industrial action on Cal Mac ferries has been halted for the time being after the Scottish Government delayed the process for putting the ferry network out to tender.

Janice and Martin Macdonald, were worried the RMT union dispute would throw their plans to get married in Harris off course.

The happy couple of Inverness get back to the Highland capital on Saturday to catch a flight to Barcelona for their honeymoon.

But ferries faced huge disruption that day in the aftermath of Friday's proposed strike.

Janice's contingency plan was to fly by plane or even hire a fishing boat to make the connection.

Spending their honeymoon on Harris wasn't a problem either.

The pair originally feared many guests would not be able to attend their big day because of the travel uncertainty over ferries.

They exchanged vows in the Church of Scotland in Tarbert on Wednesday afternoon.

Janice wanted the ceremony in her mother’s home island. Her mum, Katie Ann Thompson hails from the village of Ardhasaig where Janice spent every summer holiday with her granny, Mary Macdonald.

Janice, 35, said: “I was very worried when I heard about proposed strike.

“A lot of our guests were booked on the ferry for Harris and I was worried they wouldn’t come to the wedding.”

Some guests had no chance to recover from last night’s celebrations after transferring bookings from Friday to this morning's ferry.

Janice said: “There’s some who have to go home early - with a few sore heads - rather than on Friday.”

“But Cal Mac have been very good in communicating over what was happening to them.”
