Some 13 people braved the chilly water and took a dip in the sea off Lewis today.

Despite the rain and cold weather, the swimmers - sponsored by family and friends - marked the start of the new year by plunging into Broadbay at Gress Beach.

The event was organised by the local branch of Alzheimer Scotland.

The money raised will be put towards the running costs of dementia cafes on the island.

Dementia cafes give people with dementia and their carers the opportunity to meet up, get advice and information from trained staff.
