Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has begun rolling out the new kerbside recycling bins to Lewis and Harris areas yet to receive the service.
The council announced the service in September but it still has to be launched.
No changes to the bin service are being undertaken in Uist and Barra at the moment.
The comhairle has yet to determine the new collection timetables for Lewis and Harris. This will be done in the “coming months” and will be publicised in due course promised the council.
According to a spokesman said: “Our teams are making good progress with the delivery of the new bins, and we hope to be able to commence collections in these areas in the near future.
People without a green and blue recycling bin are to receive the new bins.
The council is changing over to emptying bins every three weeks including non-recyclable waste which goes to the landfill dump.
However, the green bin for glass recycling will only be picked up every second month under the changes.
Food and garden waste collected from Lewis and Harris households is converted into electricity and hydrogen at the Creed Park anaerobic digester facility.
