Two post offices are set to open in Stornoway to replace the Bayhead branch.

A “new style local” post office service will be available at Campbells Filling Station on Cannery Road and at the Cearns Shop. Both premises are owned by Angus Campbell, leader of the comhairle.

The Newton branch will open at the petrol station on 28 February.

The Cearns branch opens at 1pm on Tuesday 14 March, the same time the Bayhead post office shuts for good.

Instead of the traditional sub-post office layout, post office services at the new locations will be delivered at open-plan tills at the shop counters instead of from separate screened counters.

They will operate the same opening hours as each shop meaning services would be available in the evening and all day Saturday.
