Two post offices are set to open in Stornoway to replace the Bayhead branch.

Under the plan the new post offices would be at Campbells Filling Station on Cannery Road and at the Cearns Shop. Both premises are owned by Angus Campbell.

Instead of the traditional sub-post office layout, post office services would be delivered at open-plan tills at the shop counters instead of from separate screened counters.

The new branches would operate the same opening hours as each shop meaning services would be available in the evening and all day Saturday.

Should the move go ahead, the Cearns branch would open from 9am- 9pm Monday to Saturday.

The Newton branch in the petrol station would open 7am - 11pm daily.

The Post Office is now inviting customers and interested parties to give their comments on the move in a six-week public consultation.

It said the proposed move is in agreement with the current postmaster, who wishes to leave the network.
