Point councillor, Norman M Macleod, has been elected to head the Comhairle’s Environment and Protective Services Committee.

The committee also has a legal role in deciding planning applications.

Mr Macleod is formerly the convener of Northern Police Board. He was the last chairman of Comhairle’s housing committee before its role was absorbed by the environment committee.

David Blaney received three votes for the post while Norman Macleod acquired 10.

The new chairman paid tribute to the work of his predecessor, Cllr Kenneth Murray, who passed away in December.
