Hebrides News

A new newspaper has been launched in the islands.

The monthly free Island News and Advertiser publication has revamped as a paid weekly.

Priced at 80p, the paper covers Uist and Benbecula and is sold from most shops between Berneray and Eriskay.

It is the first time a dedicated weekly newspaper has served the area.

The first edition leads with the story of North Uist's Westford Inn reopening under new owners after a long period of closure and erratic hours, road safety concerns in Balivanich and cooking honours for a South Uist chef.

Half its print run was snapped up by eager readers on Thursday when it hit the newstands.

The newspaper is published by editor Susy Macaulay and printed at the former army base in East Camp, Benbecula.
