The Stornoway Reformed Presbyterian Church (SRPC) is to get a new minister.

Rev Kenneth Stewart has accepted a call from the congregation and is to be inducted this weekend.

The service takes place in Stornoway Town Hall at 7pm this Friday, followed by a reception at the County Hotel.

Mr Stewart, who has just concluded a year of service as moderator of the denomination, has been pastor of the Glasgow RP church - located on Gardener Street, Partick - for the past 11 years.

He was previously a minister at Downavale Free -  formerly Patrick Highland - for about a decade and has also been a pastor in Stornoway and Scalpay.

Mr Stewart who belongs to Grimsay, North Uist, is married to Anna who hails from Lewis.

The Stornoway pulpit has only been vacant for two months since Rev Stephen McCollum moved to the Airdrie congregation following a five year spell in Lewis.
