New minister for Carloway 24/6/14
Rev Thomas Davis is set to become minister of Carloway Free Church on Lewis after
accepting a call to the vacant congregation.
The 31-year-old father-of-three only recently completed his studies at Edinburgh
Theological Seminary, and was licensed for the Free Church ministry last week at
Back Free Church by the Western Isles Presbytery.
Mr Davis accepted the call in person at a congregational meeting in Carloway on Monday.
The congregation has been without a minister since Rev Kenny Macleod left in September
2012 to go to Dowanvale Free Church in Glasgow.
Rev Thomas Davis said: “We are so thankful to God for leading us to Carloway and
giving us the privilege of serving Him there.
“As a family we are really excited to become part of the church and community there
and we hope that by God’s grace we can work hard for the cause of the gospel in Carloway.
“We are so grateful to all those who have prayed for us in the past weeks and months,
we have been given wonderful love and support from so many.”
Mr Davis was born in Aberdeen and moved Lewis whilst still a baby. He grew up in
Stornoway and went to The Nicolson Institute.
He completed a degree in Economics and Politics with the Open University whilst working
part-time as a postman in Stornoway. During this time he married Una and settled
in Back.
He undertook an engineering apprenticeship with his father-in-law Gordon Maclennan
of Gordon Diesel Services.
