Leverburgh’s new £2 million lifeboat is due to formally arrive at the station on Saturday.

The RNLB Stella and Humfrey Berkeley was built at the RNLI’s base in Poole.

Leverburgh’s volunteer crew is navigating her up the west coast to her new home.

They have undertaken additional training to familiarise themselves with the boat.

She is due to arrive at her South Harris station in April.

An event is taking place to welcome her to the station.

Leverburgh’s outgoing Mersey class lifeboat, The Royal Thames, will accompany her to the harbour at 1.25pm.

The new vessel will demonstrate its capabilities in front of the pier. The Stornoway rescue helicopter is expected to attend, depending on operational requirements.
