Welcome for creation of new Islands Minister post

The recent reshuffle of the Scottish Parliament Cabinet saw the creation of a Islands Minister post.
Transport Minister Derek Mackay has been handed the appointment.
He has been been involved in the Our Islands Our Future campaign since last year as chair of the ministerial working group.
Speaking of the move, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar Leader Angus Campbell said: “This is a very welcome appointment and one that I am sure will assist in taking forward the work of the Our Islands Our Future campaign.

Mr Campbell added: “We have always had a very good working relationship with Mr Mackay and I hope that he will continue to chair the Islands Areas Ministerial Working Group.”
SNP member for Renfrewshire North and West, Mr Mackay had previously held the post of Minister for Local Government and Planning.
