New Gaelic Resource now online          16/5/14

A new Gaelic resource website called e-Stòras has been launched on the internet.

The web pages created by the multimedia unit at the Comhairle provides teaching resources for pupils in Gaelic Medium Education.

The three main sections to the website -pre-school, primary and secondary focus on a range of subjects from history, songs, language, culture and drama.

The secondary section has additional focus on literature and there are a series of short videos about Iain Crichton Smith and Dòmhnall Ruadh Phaislig in addition to An Sgeulachd Ghoirid (The Short Story) which was created over a year ago.

All three sections will be regularly updated with new materials aimed at enhancing young people’s Gaelic learning opportunities.

Catriona Stewart, Chair of Education, said: “I applaud the work of the multimedia unit in providing snapshots of community work as well as our rich cultural heritage and modern stories presented in formats which are extremely appealing.”

Evelyn Coull, manager of the multimedia unit, said:  “We are pleased to have this new resources live online and available for all young people to utilize it to enhance their Gaelic language skills. This resource is suitable for use not only in the Western Isles, but wherever Gaelic is taught, and we hope that it will supplement what pupils learn in the classroom.”
