The Gaelic Books Council is seeking two unpublished writers to participate in the Gaelic New Writers Awards 2017, it was announced on Literature Day at this year’s Royal National Mod in Stornoway.

 

The annual Gaelic New Writers Awards development scheme, a collaboration between the Gaelic Books Council and Scottish Book Trust, is now open for applications.

 

Through this programme, two new Gaelic writers will each receive grants of £2,000 and expert advice regarding their work.

 

The awardees will receive a tailored package which can include mentoring from experienced writers and industry professionals, training in PR and presentation, and a week-long retreat at Cove Park in Argyll.

 

The programme is open to Gaelic writers of various genres such as fiction, poetry or biography, on condition that they are resident in Scotland, have not previously published a book, and will not be participating in full-time education during 2017.
