A new defibrillator has been installed at the Huisinis Gateway building in Harris.
North Harris Trust installed the life-saving device with the help of Western Isles
Development Trust and Lucky2Bhere.
Time is of the essence when responding to a cardiac arrest but the community, as
well as the 40,000 plus annual visitors to the area , are a long drive from help.
The British Heart Foundation says “every minute without CPR and a defibrillator,
reduces survival chances by up to 10%”
The trust plans to arrange training early in the New Year
Defibrillators are devices that apply an electric charge or current to the heart
to restore a normal heartbeat. If the heart rhythm stops due to cardiac arrest, also
known as sudden cardiac arrest, a defibrillator may help it start beating again.
