Stòras Uibhist has announced the appointment of John Daniel Peteranna as chairperson
of Lochboisdale Development Limited (LDL).
Lochboisdale Development is a trading arm of the South Uist community landlord to
oversee the construction of new infrastructure and business streams at Lochboisdale
Harbour at Gasay.
Mr Peteranna who was elected as a director of Stòras earlier this month has been
one of the main forces behind the South Uist Business Impact Group in its drive for
a reliable ferry service to Lochboisdale.
Mr Peteranna said: “We are struggling to get the central belt-based decision makers
to understand the difficulties the unreliable ferry service creates, affecting lives
of people in Uist.
“Until these decision makers, or at least some of them, are based on an island that
relies on the Calmac ferry network nothing will ever improve, they just don't get
it.”
He added: “I am very excited to be working with the LDL board to progress the new
Gasay pier in Lochboisdale and explore the opportunities that it will deliver to
Uist, working with our partner agencies to achieve our common goal of a new ferry
and new pier.”
He is also excited to work with the LDL board to drive revenues and improve profitability,
and to keep the entity on an even keel to ensure its future security and prosperity.
