Horshader Community Development Trust has announced the appointment of three new elected directors.

This follows the resignation of Carole Miller, which left the Shawbost-based organisation in need of at least one new director to continue its work effectively.

At a recent EGM, the trust’s members approved the appointments of Peter Lidgett, Iain Macdonald, and Christina (Chris) Morrison as new directors.

Chris Morrison and Iain Macdonald are well-known locals from South Shawbost. Chris has been actively involved with the trust for some time, serving on the project evaluation group, which assesses applications to the Community Grants Fund.

Iain, an offshore mechanic in the oil industry, brings valuable technical expertise, particularly as the trust looks ahead to the future of the Risort community wind turbine, including its potential repowering or replacement.

Peter Lidgett recently retired to South Shawbost after a career in IT management with an international company, followed by a decade running a hospitality business in France.

The new directors join existing board members Jimina Macleod, Flora Maclean, and Fiona Jefferson, bringing diverse skills and experience to the organisation.

Fiona Jefferson has been appointed as the new chairperson of the Horshader Board.

Chris Humphries as returned as Tree Ark and Community Growing Supervisor, overseeing Hebridean Tree Ark team and managing community growing spaces at Grinnebhat Road and Dalmore Polycrubs.

The board has also appointed Gordon Matheson as business manager. Gordon joined the trust as development officer last October and has served as acting manager for the past two months following Donna Maclennan’s departure.

Gordon Matheson commented: "Horshader Trust may serve a small area, but we have a big opportunity to benefit our community. I’m looking forward to working with the new board, and the wider membership, to refine the trust’s vision and values, and to build on our pioneering projects - the community-owned Risort Wind Turbine and the Hebridean Tree Ark.

“Our goal remains to revitalise the community in and around Horshader, and I am focused on strengthening the Horshader team to achieve this."
