Chefs cook up fundraising event for Nepalese earthquake victims

1 June 2015

Staff at three Stornoway hotels have organised a charity night to help raise funds for victims of the earthquake in Nepal.

The disaster has affected families and friends of the eight Nepalese chefs and other staff working in the Caladh Inn, Royal and Cabarfeidh Hotels, as well as others in the sizeable local Nepalese community.

Some have lost family members, while other relatives have become homeless following the earthquakes.

A ceilidh has been organised for Saturday evening. All of the entrance ticket money, priced at £5 per person, will be donated directly to the DEC Nepal Earthquake Appeal.

A Nepalese themed charity buffet preceding the ceilidh is now sold out.

Performers includes Isles Ceilidh Band with Murdigan Macdonald, Shonnie "Beag" Macmillan, Euan Morrison (Scalpay ), Lyn Maclean Dancers and Piper, Ian "Tosh" Macintosh, Rebekah Macleod, Amy Mackay and Emma Macleod.

Tickets are available from the three hotels.

Organisers are appealing to local businesses for donations of prizes for a raffle and an auction for the evening.

As a result of the earthquakes, more than 10,000 people have died, more than 20,000 were injured and over 250,000 homes have been destroyed or damaged.

Local Nepalese families express their gratitude to all islanders who have donated to help provide aid.

Some from the island Nepalese community have lost family members, while other relatives and friends have become homeless following the earthquakes.
