Nato wargames off Hebrides 31/3/14
Europe’s largest naval exercise is taking place off the Western Isles and west coast
of Scotland.
Ships, submarines, aircraft and ground troops from the UK, US, Turkish, German, Belgian,
French, Dutch, Canadian, New Zealand and Danish militaries are all involved in the
Joint Warrior exercise.
Over 33 warships, 25 different types of aircraft, and 13,000 personnel are all taking
part in the military training.
Twelve Royal Navy ships will use the exercise to prepare for their imminent deployments
to the Atlantic, Mediterranean and Middle East to combat piracy and provide humanitarian
disaster relief.
