Hebrides holiday named as a “tour of a lifetime”   13/4/14

A guided holiday of the Outer Hebrides has been rated one of the best must-do lifetime tours by a famous travel magazine.

National Geographic Traveler, which boasts more than 8.5 million readers worldwide, has chosen Wilderness Walking: The Outer Hebrides and Skye as the only UK entry 50 Tours of a Lifetime for 2014.

The six-day tour by  Wilderness Scotland sets out from Inverness and takes in the coastlines, glens and hills of Harris, Skye and Scalpay.

It has been placed alongside worldwide tours such as kayaking in the canals of Venice, trekking across the Serengeti plain and wolf-watching in Montana.

National Geographic Traveler writes: “What better way to celebrate Scotland’s Year of Homecoming—when the diaspora are invited back to explore their heritage—than to wander its coastal machairs (fields), peaks, and glens on the far-flung islands of Skye, Harris, and Lewis.”

Norie Quintos, Executive Editor of the magazine said: “The selection process was competitive and our editorial team worked long and hard to find 2014’s most authentic, most innovative, most immersive, best-guided, and most sustainable tours. “
