Three talented young musicians from the Western Isles have received funding to further their musical education.

The Agar Trust offers grants of up to £1000 to support young people aged between 8 and 21 years who demonstrate proven musical skills and potential.

The body said the isle’s trio displayed exceptional musical ability.

Calum Macmillan, 11, from South Uist will use his award to attend the National Youth Choir of Scotland’s Boys’ Choir in Musselburgh.

Bagpipe player, Calum Craib, 14, of Benbecula will participate in National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland rehearsals in Glasgow.

Seventeen year old Donald Martin - a double bass musician from Lewis – is now able to train through National Youth Orchestra of Scotland courses in Perth and Edinburgh.

Formed in 2014, the Agar Trust recognises the wealth of talented young musicians living in remote and rural areas of Scotland who wish to further their musical education or develop a career in music.

Its funding awards help with the cost of travelling to the mainland to seek specialist tuition or play with others of a similar standard.

The next deadline for applications is 30th September 2015. Visit www.agar-trust.org.uk for further information.
