Music students in Sweden harnessed video conference technology to create new tunes with their counterparts in the Western Isles and the Highlands.

The opportunity arose when tutors teaching the music degree course at the UHI campus in Benbecula ran a ‘virtual residency’ from the island this week.

Some 101 music students worked together over video conference collaborating to create new music inspired by themes of heritage.

Luleå University of Technology in the north of Scandinavia interlinked online with bases in Benbecula, Glasgow, Fort William, Alness, Orkney, and Shetland.

For the Uist students, the residency culminated in  performance at Taigh Ciuil at Taigh Chearsabhagh arts centre.

The entire group will meet again together in Stornoway during the last week of April for performances and workshops.
