High winds cause multiple power cuts across Western Isles

Hydro workers have been dealing with a series of power outages in the islands during the weekend stormy conditions - particularly in Uist, Benbecula and Barra which has suffered the worst of violent gusts.
Hundreds of households were affected over the day with many in darkness tonight.
However, prolonged power cuts are affecting communities in the North East.
A worse storm is set to sweep over the north of Scotland on Sunday.
Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) has moved to red alert status for the north of Scotland following the significant damage caused by Storm Malik on Saturday, combined with the potential impacts of Storm Corrie on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Nicola Sturgeon chaired a Scottish Government resilience meeting over the potential impacts from storm damage.
In South Uist, Carnan and Lochcarnan areas were impacted. Homes in the Southend district, including Daliburgh and Lochboisdale, were without power in the morning. A number of properties in the same areas are without supplies again this evening.
There was a power cut on Barra while Uig in Lewis was affected this morning.
Berneray and a large part of North Uist were without supplies as was Balivanich and the surrounding area.
