Motoring offences                 4/8/14

James Maciver, 22, of 1A Benside, Lewis, received a total of 11 points on his licence on top of a £800 fine. He narrowly avoided losing his licence as just one more point would have seen it revoked.

Stornoway Sheriff Court heard that Maciver was caught speeding in a police check doing 65mph in a 40mph zone at Sandwick.

On another occasion, he drove a vehicle belonging to Scott Matheson without insurance.

Both previously pleaded guilty to the offences.

Lawyer Angus Macdonald said Matheson had just purchased the vehicle and “somehow” the pair were “under the impression the seller’s insurance covered them for the drive home.”

Maciver admitted having no insurance while Matheson accepted he permitted him to drive uninsured.

Scott Matheson of 77 Coll, Lewis, 22, was fined £300 and had six penalty points imposed.
