The revving of a car which caught the attention of a police officer ended up with the driver appearing in court.

Liam Macphee of Princes Street, Creagorry, Benbecula, had just bought a car around his 17th birthday and planned to go for his driving licence.

The vehicle was parked outside his home, off the main road, and he drove it a few yards to a private parking space on 17 July last year.

But a police officer spotted him and Macphee was charged with five motoring allegations.

He pleaded guilty to driving without insurance at Lochmaddy Sheriff Court and the remaining charges were dropped.

Lawyer Gordon Seaton said the youth's excitement of applying for a licence had now gone.

Sheriff Chris Dickson imposed six points and fined him £240.
