MSP Alasdair Allan has written to the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) over the long waiting times for motorcycle tests in the Western Isles.

Motorcycle test applicants have to complete a compulsory basic training course and the theory test before they can take the full test.

But current waiting times for the theory exam are eight and a half weeks in the Western Isles when it used to be once a month.

Alasdair Allan said the delay is an “unacceptable” and it appears that the DVSA are “letting down” applicants in the Western Isles.

He added: “The facilities are available and there is enough demand locally so instructors and applicants are understandably perplexed at the long waiting times.

“The DVSA need to ensure that the islands are being treated on an equitable basis with the rest of this country, and to that end I hope the waiting time issue is swiftly resolved.”
