Crash motorbiker in critical condition

A motorcyclist is critically ill in hospital after a serious road crash in Harris.

Initially, the man's injuries were not thought to be life-threatening after his Harley Davidson motorbike smashed one mile south of Tarbert.

No other vehicle was involved in the incident which occurred around 1.35pm on Saturday afternoon.

The casualty - believed to be an island man in his 30s - was rushed 40 miles to the Stornoway hospital by ambulance.

His condition deteriorated and he was flown by air ambulance to the Southern General hospital in Glasgow.

A female pillion passenger - said to be in her 20s - was hurt in the crash but is not seriously injured.
