Motorists on the Stornoway to Harris route are urged to drive carefully on the North Lochs section.
Thick smoke is billowing from a moorland blaze into the village and across the main road.
Local residents are also advised to remain indoors and keep their windows and doors closed.
The fire - miles into the moor at Suardal on the southern edge of Loch Leurbost sealoch - is sweeping westward, nearer to the main road, in the stiff breeze.
With the wind changing direction, smoke is blowing across the loch and into the village of Leurbost. Houses are not in danger but the immediate area is smoke-logged said the fire service.
Group manager for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Gavin Hammond, said: “Crews are in attendance at muirfire south shore of Loch Leurbost, Lewis.
“The fire is under control SFRS will remain on scene as parts are inaccessible.
“Local residents advised to keep windows and doors shut if in path of smoke plume.”
He added drivers should exercise caution.
Two fire crews initially attended after 1pm later to be supported by a third crew.
