Youngsters sweep the board at Mod events       16/10/14

Island school pupils swept the board in the main children’s events at the Inverness Mod this week.

Daniel MacLeod from Back School won the art poster competition in the 7-8 years group.

The Choral Unison Fluent 13-18 saw The Nicolson Institute in first place and take away a host of silverware – The Mrs Campbell Blair Trophy, The Angus M Ross Trophy and the Janet Kelly Brown (Uist) Trophy.

The choir also took the Archie M Beaton Trophy for highest aggregate marks in Choral competitions; and the Heather K Moore Cup for the highest aggregate marks in Music in Choral.

The choir events were an all-island affair, with silver badges in the unison going to Sir E Scott, and Sgoil Lionacleit came in third.

The line-up was the same in Choral 2 Part Harmony Fluent 13-18 – with The Nicolson taking ‘The Oban Times’ Challenge Trophy and The Mrs Hobbs Cup; Sir E Scott in second place and Sgoil Lionacleit taking Bronze.

However, Sir E Scott took the top spot in the Puirt-a-beul Fluent 13-18 comp and awarded The Bella Campbell Trophy; while it was silver badges for The Nicolson Institute and another bronze for Sgoil Lionacleit.

Isles’ junior choirs also did well on Tuesday with Coisir Og an Rubha scooping The Aberfoyle and District Branch Trophy and gold badges for first place in Choral Unison Fluent U13.

And in Choral Puirt-a-beul Fluent U13, Coisir Og an Rubha received silver while Bun-sgoil Lionail took the bronze prize.
