Raft of trophies for Mod winners       17/10/14

 

Western Isles older talents are following youngsters’ success in the 2014 Mod adult competitions.

 

Trophies are already set to cross the Minch this weekend with Domhnall Macleod from Carloway winning the Dr Alasdair Patrick Barden Memorial Salver in Senior Precenting.

 

And Ceitlin Smith from Ness, Lewis will bring home The Duncan Johnston Memorial Trophy after coming first in Puirt-a-Beul Ladies and Men Open.

 

Ceitlin was also awarded a Silver Badge in the Oran Mor qualifier for the An Comunn Gold Medal.

 

Linn Phipps from Lewis came second in the Oban Times Gold Medal; Catherine Tinney took Silver in the Skye or Sutherland Song competition; Nicola Pearson from Lewis was another second in the Kennedy-Fraser Cup.

 

Stornoway’s Campbell McKenzie was awarded a Silver Badge for his second placing in the Men’s Silver Pendant Sea Song comp. Campbell also came fourth in the Silver Pendant Final.

 

In the Men’s Traditional Medal qualifying heats, first place went to Neil MacRitchie from Carloway, who adds to the islands’ silverware list with The Lochaber Rotary Club Trophy; while Torquil MacLeod from Stornoway/Lochs took the Bronze Badge.

 

In the Ladies Traditional Medal qualifiers, Karen Elder from Barra took Bronze and Lewis’ Ceitlin Smith came fourth equal with Netta MacKinnon from Tobermoray.

 

Ceitlin also featured in the Ladies Gold Medal Heat Prescribed with a Bronze Badge, while Isabel NicLeoid from Carloway took the Silver Badge.
