The Traditional Gold Medal competitions at the Royal National Mòd have been won by two Western Isles singers.

The competition is considered one of the most prestigious at the Mòd and sees competitors sing two songs of their own choosing in the traditional Gaelic manner, without musical accompaniment.

Claire Macaulay, originally from Cross Skigersta Road, Ness, won the ladies' prize. Mrs Macaulay  lives in Glasgow with her husband and three children, and teaches primary children at the Glasgow Gaelic School. She is also a member of the Glasgow Islay Gaelic Choir who won the ladies' area choir competition this afternoon.

In the men's event, the medal was awarded to Torquil Macleod who hails from Lochs and lives in Stornoway.
