Mobile operator O2 says work is underway to bring 4G service to Breasclete and Shawbost in Lewis as well as the Howmore district in South Uist.

Subject to successful implementation and testing, customers should see the new and improved service in the coming weeks.

During the work, there may be times when a customer’s signal experiences intermittent service.

MP Angus MacNeil said:“It is pleasing to hear from O2 that customers in the Western Isles will soon be able to experience faster mobile internet making everything easier when using their phone or tablet.

“I know that some O2 customers have noticed that 4G is already available in some areas and this is it seems is also of benefit to Vodafone customers.

“It is good to see progress being made on improving the mobile coverage in our islands and I hope that mobile operators will work together ensure that all areas will have 4G.”
