Police are appealing for information to help trace a man reported missing from Lewis.

Islander, Murdo MacAskill, was last seen disembarking a ferry in Ullapool at around 4.45pm on Tuesday 12th May, having boarded in Stornoway.

The 54-year-old has not been sighted since then and has not made contact with friends or family.

Murdo has previously travelled to London and spent some time in the city and so officers are conducting enquiries to see if he may be in this area.

Anyone who can assist in locating Murdo is asked to come forward.

He is described as white, 5ft 9ins tall with a slim/skinny build and short brown hair.

He was last seen wearing trousers or jeans, a dark jacket and carrying a backpack. Murdo speaks with a West Scotland accent.

Inspector Roddy MacKay said: "It has been five days since Murdo was last seen and he did not alert anyone as to what his travel plans were.

“As such, we are keen to establish his whereabouts as soon as possible and ensure he is safe.

"Anyone who has information that can assist officers with their enquiries are asked to contact police immediately."

Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101
