Police dogs have been called out to search for missing German man Torsten Kulke who was last seen 11 days ago.

 

Over the weekend searches focused around an area where his rucksack was discovered near hazardous cliffs between Crowlista and Gallan Head.

 

Stornoway lifeboat was out all day, undertaking a seaward search of the bottom of cliffs and out to sea.

 

Coastguard teams and Hebridean Mountain Rescue volunteers scoured the moorland and clifftops.

 

Inspector Jane Nicolson said: "Sadly, despite extensive search activity, Torsten remains missing.

 

"His family have been kept fully informed during the enquiry and my thoughts are with them at this difficult time.

 

"Any new information we receive will be acted on and I would urge anybody who has information which could help us should call 101, quoting reference NH2952/17."

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The 48-year-old flew into Scotland from Germany on July 28.

 

He hired a taxi at Stornoway Airport to take him to an isolated spot between the villages of Eristeadh and Aird Uig.

Search squads from Stornoway Coastguard - including Stornoway, Bragar, Breasclete and Miavaig rescue teams - as well as Hebrides Mountain Rescue Team have tramped many hundreds of miles over the moorland and hills.

 

Searchers were also airlifted onto a mountain range as efforts continued.

 

Stornoway coastguard helicopter has made repeated sweeps across the district.

Boat operator Seatrek Cruises has also assisted with the search operation.

n leaving a taxi in the ’Torsten Kulke was last seen in the Aird Uig area on Friday and extensive searches have been carried out.

 

 

When last seen was wearing a white top, khaki trousers, heavy walking boots and carrying a rucksack or backpack. Mr Kulke is 6ft 3in tall and of medium build with light brown hair.

Inspector Jane Nicolson said: "I can confirm that personal items belonging to Torsten were recovered during searches in the area where he most recently seen.

 

"We are working with colleagues in Germany to keep his family informed of developments.

 

"Our enquiries are ongoing and I would again urge anyone with information or anyone who believes they may have seen Torsten to get in touch with us by calling 101, quoting reference NH 2952/17."

 

Family in Germany reported the 48-year-old missing, raising concerns for his wellbeing.

 

Western Isles Police established he travelled to Scotland and later boarded a flight to Lewis.

 

After arriving at Stornoway airport on Friday afternoon Mr Kulke hired a taxi to take him to Uig.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

He asked to be dropped off in an isolated spot on a narrow single track road near Loch Mheacleit between the villages of Eristeadh and Aird Uig.

The 48-year-old from Germany was reported missing on Monday, July 31, having arrived in the Western Isles on Friday, July 28.

 

Extensive searches were carried out over the course of the weekend involving specialist Police resources, including the dog unit, as well as the Stornoway lifeboat, Coastguard personnel and the Hebridean Mountain Rescue Team.

Activity focused on the area where Mr Kulke was last seen near Aird Uig. Personal items and a rucksack belonging to Mr Kulke was recovered during searches of the area last week.
