Prolonged downpours during a gale are forecast to affect the Western Isles this weekend.

The Met Office has issued a yellow "be aware" warning of localised flooding.

Forecasters warned: "Be aware of the likelihood of some limited travel disruption and difficult driving conditions."

Rain is due to become persistent later on Friday and occasionally turn heavy during Saturday.

The deluge will be accompanied by strong to gale force southerly winds, and leaf fall and tree debris may reduce road drainage.

Excess surface water could lead to localised flooding in prone areas, whilst strong winds are also likely to generate rough seas, said the Met Office.

The rain will start to clear this region later on Saturday evening.

Around 50 to 80 mm may fall in a 36 hour period, with perhaps as much as 100 mm over exposed hills.
