Catherine, a native of Barra and now living in Stornoway, has been part of the NHS Western Isles community psychiatric nursing service team since 1994.

Fiona Doherty, of the University of Stirling, said the award was “ very high praise.”

She added: “Having a good mentor makes or breaks a placement for the students.”

Debbie Macrae, of the Western Isles NHS community psychiatric nursing team said: “Catherine is very important to our local team, in fact Catherine guides us on the paperwork required for all our student placements, which is a very lengthy process indeed.

“She puts an awful lot of work into it and her achievement is very well deserved.”
