Sir,

It is both a mark and measure of Dr David Wilson’s standing as a man and his utter lack of professionalism as a ‘press spokesman’ that he finds himself reduced to downright falsehoods in his most recent letter.

At no point in all my recent impersonations of what he so originally calls a ‘cracked gramophone’ in these pages have I ever suggested that the MP Angus B MacNeil should attend meetings of the Comhairle. Nor have I indicated that he is qualified in any sense to do so (You can take that whatever way you want, David).

Instead, I have merely pointed out that, unlike the overwhelming majority of both MPs, MSPs and other representatives throughout the length and breadth of these islands, he lacks the civility to either visit or consult with council on a regular basis – as well as a range of other basic duties that are usually central to an MP’s role. In that way, Mr MacNeil’s utter lack of professionalism mirrors Dr Wilson’s own.

In short, Dr Wilson’s attachment to the truth seems to be a very thin and tenuous one. He’ll be telling us all that – despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary - Mr Angus Brendan MacNeil ‘saved the range’ next.
