A community neighbouring a small windfarm on Lewis have been gifted £10,000 for their support and understanding during the construction upheaval.

Point and Sandwick windfarm has erected three turbines on the Pentland Road by Marybank.

Windfarm trust chairman, Angus McCormack, said  said they wanted to “recognise the goodwill” showed to them during the development of the community windfarm.

Edna Morrison, secretary of Marybank Residents Association, said the money will make a “massive difference” to their community and has even inspired them to try for a turbine of their own.

The local group has been been promised £5,000 annually which will allow them to invest in community amenities.
