MSP welcomes ferry assurance    8/9/10

Tory MSP Mary Scalon has welcomed an assurance from the Scottish Transport Minister that a new Mallaig-Lochboisdale ferry service will be considered as part of the ongoing Scottish Ferries Review.

She had raised the issue after being approached by a number of constituents concerned about the openness of a public consultation into the review process, which runs until the end of September.

Mary said: "I'm delighted the Mallaig-Lochboisdale service is under consideration as another route to the Western Isles.

"There is no doubt that Western Isles tourism depends and thrives upon excellent ferry links, and Lochboisdale to Mallaig would not only benefit the Fort William to Mallaig tourist route but also the Uists, Benbecula and Barra."
