Line of Duty star on ‘Scottish Fling’ in the Hebrides

8 April 2022

One of Britain’s most recognisable actors - Martin Compston - is on a Hebridean journey for a BBC show.

The Line of Duty star has returned to Scotland from his family home in Las Vegas for filming.

Reuniting with his friend Phil MacHugh, together they set off to find out what makes modern Scotland tick.

They seek to discover how people and places shape the nation for the Scottish Fling travel programme expected to air on BBC2.

Compston has learnt a few Gaelic phrases for his island-hopping trip which has taken them to Uist, Harris and Lewis so far.

He enjoyed a breezy sailing across the Sound of Harris on the CalMac ferry, MV Loch Portain.

Earlier in Tarbert, the ex-Morton player posed with a Harris FC scarf in the Harris Hotel, insisting it was the only other team he wanted to play for.

He also popped in for a trim at Sam's Barber Shop in Stornoway.

In a rather damp Lewis, the pair picked up cooking tips from one of the “odd famous friend” they’re meeting on the way - Hebridean Baker Coinneach Macleod.

Martin Compston said: "I've travelled all over the country for work and leisure - but this is the first time I'll be meeting real modern Scots on camera, sharing their thoughts and passions. We're excited to get stuck in, and to experience the best that Scotland has to offer in the 21st century."

Phil MacHugh agreed: “Scotland has so much to offer the world and as a modern Scot, I am so excited to be joining my mate Martin to showcase the best of our culture, our language and our spirit in this brand new series.”
